Drivers licenses, 1939-[ongoing].

Upon successful completion of the driving test, an applicant receives a certificate from the examiner. This certificate with an application is presented to the probate judge who, upon payment of the proper fees, opens a computer file on the applicant, takes his/her photograph, and issues a license (see Ala. Code, 32-6-3 and 32-6-4 [1975]). This series consists of a paper copy of the license which the probate judge retains. This record began in 1939 and continues to the present.
